Brussels, 29 July 2003
The consortium led by Bouygues Bâtiment International, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, associated with the Cegelec group and Zipp, a Slovakian company, has just been awarded a contract for the design and construction of the buildings and infrastructures of the new PSA Peugeot Citroën plant in Slovakia. The contract has a 125,6 million Euro volume. This consortium is also expected to provide the painting building of the plant for an amount of approx. 20 million Euro.
A production unit of 300 000 cars per year
Located about 40 km N/E Bratislava, near the town Trnava, the plant is designed to produce the vehicles of the platform 1 of the PSA Peugeot Citroën group (segment of small-size vehicles). The production unit, on a 190-hectare site, consists of a set of four main workshops for stamping, body assembly, painting and final assembly, as well as an administrative building and technical adjacent buildings. Its production capacity will reach 300 000 cars/ year. Works, which started at the end of 2003, are scheduled for completion in Dec. 2005, with car production expected to start in early 2006.
The choice of a single consortium
The consortium made up of Bouygues Bâtiment International (leader), Cegelec (integrator of technology solutions) and Zipp (Slovakia’s leading building company) has been chosen for its capability to deploy an original team. This partnership distinguishes itself by combining the complementary expertise of the three companies which will undertake the works prior to the installation of process lines by PSA Peugeot Citroën. It is the first time that a single consortium has been involved in the construction of all of the buildings and infrastructures of a PSA Peugeot Citroën plant. This reflects the customer’s new vision of the general contractorship for design and construction.
A new local operation for Bouygues Construction
After the Ford/Volkswagen Palmela plants (Portugal) and the Valenciennes Toyota plant (France), this is the first time that Bouygues Construction teams have carried out the construction of a car production site in Eastern Europe. Drawing on a strong presence in this region, Bouygues Bâtiment International is executing several projects in the Czech Republic, Romania and Poland. Cegelec, for its part, is a longstanding partner of the automobile industry, more particularly PSA Peugeot Citroën, for which it provides and implements technology solutions for production site equipment.
