Cegelec and the new terminal at Algiers airport

Paris, 14 October 2004

Cegelec, an integrated international group providing technological services to companies and local authorities, has been awarded the contract for all the electrical and computer installations in the new terminal at Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers. This contract worth approx . EUR 20 million covers the engineering, supply, installation and setting up of all the electrical, computer and airport security equipment in the terminal, which will open to the public in January 2006.

In particular, Cegelec will be installing all the computer systems in the new terminal: computer network (LAN), FIDS (Flight Information Display System), CUTE (Common Use Terminal Equipment), MIS (Management Informat ion System) and BRS (Baggage Reconciliation System). With regard to airport security solutions, Cegelec is responsible for access control and video surveillance systems.

Cegelec has 20 months to implement all these solutions, as the Algerian airport authorities (EGSA- Alger) intend to transfer all activities from the old terminal to the new one at the start of 2006. Sticking to the timetable of this presidential project is one of the major aspects of this contract.

Cegelec was chosen by the General Contractor who was awarded the contract for this new terminal, the China State Construction and Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), for its ability to stick to short construction deadlines, its competitive solution covering all electrical, computer and security functions, and its experience in the airport industry.

The new terminal at Houari Boumediene airport will meet the continuing increase in both national and international air traffic in Algeria. The new terminal, covering an area of 82 000 m2, will be able to accommodate more than six million passengers a year in comfortable, secure conditions comparable to those in the largest international airports.

This latest success confirms Cegelec’s position as the market leader in the field of airport installation and maintenance, with recent work in Paris CDG, Paris Orly, Basle- Mulhouse, Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf, Brussels, Amsterdam, Madrid and Hanoi airports. Cegelec is involved in electrical engineering, in baggage handling systems, in the various aspects of airport security, and in airfield lighting. The company has also developed very focussed expertise in various airport fields, particularly in aircraft refuelling and fuel hydrant systems.

Cegelec is an integrated global group providing technological services for companies and local authorities. It has a turnover of nearly EUR 2.7 billion, with 26 000 employees spread over thirty countries. Cegelec provides efficient solutions in the following areas: energy, electricity (HV, MV, LV); automat ion, instrumentation and control; information and communication technologies; HVAC, mechanics; maintenance and services.
