Cegelec, an international group providing technological services for companies and public authorities, has been selected by the Technip group to supply an active transmission network for controlling and managing oil wells in Abu Dhabi on behalf of ADCO (Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations). The high-speed optical network will, by the end of the year, manage all voice, image and data transmissions, which are crucial to the smooth running of the operation. Cegelec has been entrusted with the task of designing, creating, setting up and overseeing the 49 nodes of the existing optical network. The highly sensitive nature of the information to be transmitted over this network requires an extremely secure and reliable structure to be put into place. This contract comes only six months after Cegelec became part of the Lucent Business Partner programme, which is designed to strengthen and expand Lucent’s sales channel. The combination of Lucent's optical technology and Cegelec's know-how and considerable presence in the region was a key factor in Technip's decision. Technip is a French company and a world leader in engineering, technology and project management in the field of oil and gas, petrochemicals and other industries. As project manager of this large-scale project for ADCO, Technip was asked to select a partner for supplying a high-security optical network.
Lucent will supply leading-edge optical networking technology to ensure Technip can provide a secure, high-speed network to manage and supervise its oil field expansion efforts. Lucent will provide its Metropolis® AMS and incorporated TransLAN® Ethernet cards which will allow ADCO to connect its Local Area Networks (LANs) in different locations across the field of operations, allowing the efficient sharing of resources and information. The Metropolis® AMS, is a compact system that can cost-effectively link enterprises to access networks, and add Ethernet and Fast Ethernet transport service by using carriers’ existing SDH infrastructure. It has a bandwidth of 155 Mbit/s (STM-1) on the line side and a large choice of tributary ports. Our technical and commercial skills, as well as our excellent knowledge of the area, have been key factors in Technip's decision". ""This contract strengthens Lucent's position in the Middle East and builds on the success of our partnership with Cegelec, one of Lucent's strongest business partners specialising in Lucent's data and optical solutions," said Ray Adams, president of Lucent MEA .
