Cegelec is awarded several contracts for line 2 of the Montpellier tram systemThe technological services company is stakeholder in the public transport systems of major cities in France and abroad

Paris, 14 September 2004

Cegelec, an integrated international group providing technological services to companies, public and local authorities, already associated with the construction of the first tram line in Montpellier, has been chosen to participate in the construction of the second line. This line, 19km in length, shall be operational by the end of 2006 within the framework of the extension of the Montpellier tramway network.

Cegelec has been awarded several contracts from the Montpellier Urban Area Transport Authority (TAM) worth a total of around EUR 20 million, including electricity supply, the centralised technical management system and public lighting for line 2.

Cegelec will install the overhead contact system over half of the route, provide maintenance for a ten- year period and shall supply equipment for the electricity substations supplying the line. Cegelec shall also provide a raft of services relating to the centralised technical management of the new line permitting the supervision of tramline operation and the various components in the network.

Furthermore, Cegelec is also associated with the installation of the entire lighting system for the new line, which represents more than 2,000 lighting points located in particular at station stops and at points where the line crosses roadways.

Cegelec develops global service solutions including engineering, development and maintenance of systems for the railway sector. Cegelec makes competitive bids particularly in the fields of power supply, information systems (signalling, monitoring, communication, security systems) and station equipment (escalators, air- conditioning, lighting, etc.).

Cegelec, already chosen by 11 French cities for the development or maintenance of their public transport networks (metro or tram lines), is also a major international player in this field with important operations underway in Europe (Athens, Prague, and, at the end of last year, the electrification of the new Turin metro system) and worldwide (Bangkok, Istanbul, Cairo, Mexico and Singapore).
