Cegelec, an international integrated group providing technological services to companies and public authorities, has been entrusted by the Military Applications Division (DAM), the CEA Defence Centre, with a substantial contract for the installation and connection of the electrical equipment in the future RES reactor building on the French Cadarache site which will be operational by 2009. This will constitute the new installation for developing and testing the future nuclear propulsion programme.
This contract, worth over 10 million Euros, includes the design, production studies, installation and testing of the different items of equipment, and is to be carried out over a period of three years.
After those under way at the Mega- Joule Laser on the CEA CESTA (Aquitaine Scientific and Technical Design Centre), this new contract demonstrates Cegelec’s capacity to take part in ambitious, large- scale projects in the high technology sector. It also confirms Cegelec’s recognised specific know- how in the field of equipping and maintaining nuclear installations.
These contracts also bear witness to Cegelec’s strength in being able to combine the leading edge competencies of its CEMES division in Grenoble with a strong, locally mobilisable presence for carrying out works.
The RES project includes the construction of a ground test reactor for research and development of fuels used for nuclear propulsion. At the Megajoule laser, Cegelec is, in particular, on course to producing a gigantic sphere 10m in diameter. This will constitute the experimental chamber of what, in 2009, will be the most powerful laser in the world, enabling the physical process of nuclear fusion to be simulated in complete safety.
