Cegelec, an integrated international group providing technological services to private companies and public authorities, in alliance with local Nigerian partner Prime Atlantic, signed a contract with Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited, an affiliate of Chevron Corporation, for both the provision of a training facility and the training of Nigerian nationals for current and upcoming Chevron Nigeria projects.
The contract, worth over US$ 50 million, includes the development and execution of an accredited training program for between 95 and 120 Nigerian students per year. Philippe Lecois, Vice President Cegelec, Oil & Gas division, said: "This project represents the first step in our long term strategy to develop our services both in Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea which are seen as a key region of growth for our unit. Cegelec has an ex tensive experience in the development of on- site training programs covering a large spectrum of the oil & gas activities."
Mr. Lecois further stated: "All parties involved are very pleased about what this project will do for Nigeria - seeing it as an opportunity to create a local high calibre oil & gas educational inst itution that not only provides trainees with internationally recognised certification, but also plays a key role in increasing the sustainable development and capacity building in the country."
Cegelec Oil & Gas trains about 1,000 people each year all over the world with a wide range of programs; 85% of the training sessions are organized on the clients' industrial premises. As a long- term partner of the oil industry, Cegelec is present both upstream (in offshore and onshore exploration and production) and downstream (refining, petrochemicals and chemicals), via the activities of transport, storage and loading of products.
