Arianespace and Cegelec, an integrated international group providing technological services to private companies and public authorities, have renewed their cooperation agreement at the Guyana Space Centre until 2011.
Through its Cegelec Space subsidiary, majority owned by Cegelec Germany, Cegelec has seen the continuation of its operational and maintenance activities on fluid and mechanical systems for the Ariane 5 launch complex (ELA), developed by CNES in the framework of a European Space Agency programme.
The cooperation between Arianespace and Cegelec for the Ariane programme dates back to 1980. On this one contract, Cegelec Space occupies some sixty engineers on a permanent basis on site at the Guyana Space Centre.
Michael Marter, President of Cegelec Space and a Vice President of Cegelec Germany, said:

And we are also proud that our acknowledged expertise and innovation capability still get Arianespace's confidence". He added: "This expertise and sense of innovation should allow us in future to continue developing our space activities from Frankfurt all over Europe."
In addition to its activities on the Ariane launch complex (ELA), Cegelec is also in charge of the maintenance and operation of the payload (satellites) preparation complexes on behalf of CNES and has a design and engineering office that monitors and coordinates different activities such as project design, construction supervision and technical documentation management, on the Kourou site.
Across all its different activities, Cegelec Space is one of the top private companies at the Guyana Space Centre with over 120 people based at Kourou.
