Cegelec wins new contract to provide equipment
for nuclear facilities and irradiated waste management

Paris, 16 December 2009

Cegelec, an international group providing technological services to companies and public authorities, with 40 years of experience in the various stages of nuclear power generation, has been awarded a several million euros contract by EDF CIDEN concerning management of irradiated materials at LIDEC’s future facilities in Chinon, France.

As part of a consortium headed by Bouygues subsidiary GFC Construction, Cegelec will provide process equipment to LIDEC, the EDF laboratory responsible for developing integrated expertise in metallurgy and chemicals. The type of equipment required, including hot cells, remote manipulator systems and tube transfer systems, will leverage Cegelec’s capabilities in handling and sorting systems and irradiated materials processing.

Cegelec made the difference by proposing a prefabrication method that will cut the overall construction time to 31 months and by taking responsibility within the six-member consortium for the pneumatic specimen transfer system, based on innovative technology developed by Cegelec teams.

This contract follows on a 2008 project win for the ICEDA radioactive waste encapsulation and storage facility in Bugey, now at engineering stage and for which EDF is awaiting the decree setting up INB (basic nuclear installations) before starting the construction.

Cegelec also works with France’s national radioactive waste management agency (ANDRA) and has produced an industrial demonstrator for the disposal of vitrified waste in a deep geological repository.
