Sonara refinery upgrade in Cameroon

Paris, 20 May 2010

Cegelec, an international group providing technological services to companies and public authorities, has signed a turnkey contract (EPCC) with Cameroon’s Société Nationale de Raffinage (Sonara) to upgrade the management system and replace the instrumentation and control systems at the country’s sole refinery. Most of the facility’s equipment dates from the late 1970s.

Under the €25-million contract, to be executed over an 18-month period, Cegelec will replace the pneumatic technology found in most of the refinery’s 22 units with a numerical control system and a safety programmable logic controller to improve supervision and safety.

The units will be operated from a new blast-proof control room. After performing the architectural and ergonomic design for the control room in 2008, Cegelec was awarded a contract in late 2009 to manage and supervise its construction.
