Upgrading of the Edea 1 hydroelectric power station in Cameroon

Cegelec was chosen to provide electrical equipment and a new distributed control system for a project to upgrade the Edea 1 hydroelectric power station in Cameroon, led by Andritz VA Tech Hydro.

The contract, signed in 2008, is to be executed over a period of 41 months. It is part of a programme to upgrade the plant’s three oldest units and raise their total capacity from 35.3 MW to 49.2 MW. This will increase the total generation capacity of the Edea dam, which was built in the 1960s.

The project will not affect the power station’s 11 other units, which will continue to operate during the upgrade.
