Cegelec is uniquely qualified to help Eastern and Central European public transport companies to extend the life cycle of their Russian-made trams, which are still in good condition, rather than invest heavily in new stock. Our cost-effective, environmentally friendly solution involves replacing the traditional resistor-based traction system with our TVM Progress DC-drive technology. It could potentially be applied to more than 15,000 metro, tram and trolley cars in region.
TVM Progress delivers a variety of benefits. Its regenerative braking system helps to reduce operating costs by more than 30%, while its almost complete lack of moving parts dramatically improves reliability and significantly reduces maintenance costs. In addition, it can be retrofitted to legacy rolling stock so that equipment and infrastructure don’t need to be replaced or updated. So far, 22 urban transit authorities, including those of Prague and Budapest, have selected TVM Progress, and it is estimated that well over 15,000 metro, tram and trolley cars could be fitted in the future. A dedicated engineering and assembly facility has been set up in Prague, which has already manufactured traction equipment for more than 650 cars.
