Cegelec and renewable energies

Cegelec was one of the pioneers of co-generation technologies and the use of renewable energy sources at wind farms and geothermal and biomass power stations.

For example, Cegelec has been entrusted with the supply of low and medium voltage distribution equipment at the first district heating biomass power station in Europe. Commissioned in 2003 in Papenburg, Lower Saxony, Germany, this power station powers some 50,000 homes, and operates with used wood, making it possible to save 150,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year.

Co-generation using wood, either by direct combustion or by gasification, currently constitutes the leading biomass sector, combining the advantages of power generated from wood with those of co-generation using natural gas.

Cegelec has experience of a great many co-generation projects, both new and as part of refurbishment projects. Cegelec has specific knowledge of projects from their development to commissioning (consents, definition of costs and financing, project management, electrical, thermal, mechanical and civil engineering, construction and commissioning of units, ongoing maintenance of power stations).

Among Cegelec's most recent references in this field are those for the biomass power station in Delitzsch in Germany.
