The contract, awarded to a consortium comprising Cegelec and Alcatel, involved the supply, installation and commissioning of 2,300 km OPGW on high voltage overhead lines by the end of 2004 for the account of CFE, the first Mexican producer of electricity. The contract included six sections to be equipped all over Mexico, including 931 km of the longest section between Mexico City and Guadalajara, a real "backbone" particularly vital for the whole network.
