The Mont-Blanc tunnel, totally destroyed by a fire on 24 March 1999, underwent a complete upgrade. The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition integration system (SCADA) introduced by Cegelec is unique in Europe. Designed to manage and control all electro-mechanical equipment, it ensures the integration of all acquisition devices and specific equipment controllers (that is 28,000 pieces of information), and is based on a central technical management system ensuring the real-time monitoring of the site. The control station therefore plays a unifying role; operation occurs via full situation management and not through a complex chain of separate actions.
A premiere in Europe, also by Cegelec, is the implementation of an integrated Operational Support System (OSS) enabling, in a given situation, the isolation of important information and the proposal of actions to the operator. Another innovative aspect of the OSS is: control of the ventilation where, for the first time, the longitudinal air speed control is fully automated.
