Belgium

Cegelec Belgium is part of the Cegelec Benelux Business (CBB), one of the Group’s five business units.

Cegelec’s operations in Belgium, which date back to 1960, generate annual revenue of €250 million. The company has some ten regional offices in the country and 1,700 employees.

Cegelec has carried out a number of high-profile industrial projects in Belgium, including construction of the Strépy-Thieu boat lift, renovation of the Fina Antwerp Olefins steam cracker and de-bottlenecking of the Ineos Phenol plant in Doel. It is currently building a new substation for the BP refinery in Antwerp and providing maintenance for the pipelines linking the Feluy and Marly depots and for the substations in Bazel, Hingene and Merchtem. At the biofuel refinery in Ghent, Cegelec is transforming a soybean crushing unit into a rapeseed processor and building a new refining unit that will produce biodiesel from the rapeseed.

Flagship infrastructure projects include Elia’s “Petrol” high voltage substation in Antwerp and the control/monitoring solution for the baggage sorting system at the Brussels international airport.

Projects for commercial buildings and services include the electrical, plumbing, data transmission and HVAC systems for GSK Biologicals’ 50,000 square-meter headquarters in Wavre, the HVAC system at the Brussels South airport in Charleroi and electrical, HVAC and IT wiring systems for the Tour des Finances office complex in Brussels. Cegelec’s work on this last project helped the complex comply with HQE environmental quality standards. More recently, the company installed the HVAC systems for the 190,000 square-meter Mediacité shopping centre in Liège and the 40,000 square-meter St Janspoort shopping complex in Kortrijk. It also provided HVAC engineering for the Vlaams Administratief Centrum in Leuven and the Nieuw Administratief Centrum in Herent, both of which have been certified to HQE standards.

Growth through acquisition
  • The 2003 acquisition of ABB Building Systems in Belgium and the Netherlands made Cegelec a key player in HVAC installation and services and strengthened its ability to offer multi-technical solutions.
  • Ensysta, acquired in 2006, has become a business unit of Cegelec Belgium, providing specialised skills in production equipment for the food and beverage, pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals industries.
  • In 2007, Cegelec acquired Flexelec and brought in additional capabilities in electrotechnical installations.
  • In 2008, the company acquired Eurotole, a leading mechanical maintenance provider.
