Cegelec Netherlands is part of the Cegelec Benelux Business (CBB), one of the Group’s five business units.
Cegelec’s operations in the Netherlands, which date back to 1966, generate annual revenue of €100 million. The company has some ten regional offices in the country and 600 employees.
Major industrial projects include the construction of a gas compression station for the pipeline to the United Kingdom, in partnership with BAM, and electrical, instrumentation and HVAC systems for a natural gas storage facility in the province of Groningen (the largest contract ever signed by the Netherlands). Cegelec also carried out E&I work at the BP refinery during maintenance shutdowns in 2007 and 2008. In waste management, AVR contracted with Cegelec’s Dutch subsidiary to renovate several incineration lines at a major household waste treatment plant in Rijnmond.
In the commercial buildings and services sector, the European Patent Office chose Cegelec Netherlands to provide surveillance systems and maintenance for its offices in Rijswijk.
Headline infrastructure projects include engineering, installation and testing of the technical systems in The Hague tramway’s Vliet tunnel. Cegelec is also delivering and installing all the electrical substations for the express light rail linking Rotterdam, The Hague and Zoetermeer (RandstadRail) for urban transport company RET. The contract calls for replacing the existing substations and installing new substations for the line extension underway in the northern part of the city, scheduled for delivery at the end of 2009.
The July 2003 acquisition of ABB Building Systems in Belgium and the Netherlands made Cegelec a key player in HVAC installation and services and strengthened its ability to offer multi-technical solutions. Cegelec also acquired Siemens Netherlands’ installation business in 2003. In late 2008, the company acquired WMI Liquid Foods, a firm focused primarily on the food and beverages industry in the Netherlands.
